I liked the aesthetics. It was nice to hold; actually, a little toy that could do A LOT. Unfortunately, the anti-virus slowed it down A LOT, and eventually, I sold it off. If you can do without an anti-virus, go ahead.

I purchased this Acer Aspire One netbook for my wife on 12/15/08, on-line through Amazon. The order shipped via USPS on 12/17/08, and we received it at home on 12/20/08. No problems at all, shipped fine, box perfect. It was a Christmas gift, so she didn't open the box until the morning of 12/25/08. Everything on the netbook worked as well as can be expected, and continued to do so from that morning up until 12/16/09, this past Wednesday. My wife turned on the power button, which lit up, but no video. It was getting power, both AC and DC, but no video. None of the function keys, such as F5 worked to turn on the video. She then 1st called Acer (the mistake). The telephone touch prompts sent her overseas to a call center. They were not rude, but quickly stated that no free help was available, as the netbook was out of their 1 year limited warranty time period. Call center rep states that warranty started when we bought it from Amazon on 12/15, not when we received it 12/20, or when we opened the box on 12/25. They stated we did not "register" the serial number with them, which I now agree we should have done. I thought at earliest the Amazon ship date of 12/17 would be the warranty date, and still feel that way. But no, although we 1st called on 12/18, and yes, 1 day over warranty, they said no free help! So, the overseas call center states that they can connect us with a phone tech for something like $59. Instead, I went to the Acer website (on my REAL computer) and researched it myself. It was not too bad to find the page to the problem, so evidently this is not the 1st time this netbook has had the problem. To fix, you have use a different, REAL computer to download a zip file, extract it open, change a "BIOS" file name (they don't explain any of what BIOS means or does), then copy it to a separate USB flash drive (Acer obviously does not provide this), then take that out, put the USB drive in the Acer, and go through a few more simple steps to get it to reboot. The process did work, but my chief complaint is the fact that the video screen died almost exactly after 1 year of casual use. My co-complaint is the overseas call center, reading from a practiced script, and going exactly "by the book". Someone there could have quickly suggested that there may be a fix on their web site.
You get what you pay for when buying a netbook. Don't underestimate the lack of a disc drive. Also, the keys are miniscule, somewhere between Blackberry and small laptop keys.

The manufacturers keep whining that people don't understand they're not supposed to think of a netbook as a laptop, but my Acer Aspire One has been the best compact laptop I've ever had, much more powerful than my $2500 Sony SR-77 which it effectively replaced for under $400.
I use it as a bedside computer and as my laptop when traveling, and it runs everything I need to (including games like World of Warcraft), has more disk space than I can fill, and if it gets stolen or dropped or something then it's incredibly cheap to replace so it takes much of the stress out of traveling with an expensive computer.
I've had mine for a year and have had no problems with it whatsoever.
Will have no hesitation to get another Acer Aspire the next time I need a small portable computer.

I already have another one in blue, both of them works very good, I wish that could be possible to change the ram with more than 1 Gb, that I just did and rigth now it is the limit, thank you very much, Julio

If you plan to use this computer to go online prepare to have sufficient time. I have a broadband connection and this is the slowest computer on earth. The only good thing about it is that is easy to carry.
