5 out of 5 stars One of the best DVD+R DL media I've used   September 9, 2010
DrLee (Ann Arbor, MI)
I've only been using Double layer media for a short period of time and from my experience, I can tell you that you have to have a good double layer burner and really quality double layer media and TDK have been the best thus far. I've tried various combinations and I must say Asus burners (multiple different models I've tried), Light-on, Sony NEC optirc (AD-7170A), and this piece of junk Light Scribe, are not very reliable. Plextor (don't know the model number) is alright, but slow. However, the HP DVD1270i with the TDK have been a great combination. I rarely get coasters! There are some TDK DL in the bunch that are not the best but compared to the results I was getting with the Memorex brand, I'll take the few I get from the 50 spindle. Memorex DL media absolutely are junk-DO NOT BUY THEM!! You will hate yourself for trying.

2 out of 5 stars Low quality - Disc burns unreliable   August 28, 2010
K. Jordan (New England)
I created a 6.47GB DVD video edit production for a HS play using iMovie and iDVD that, based on size, needed a Dual Layer disc. I'll be burning the disc's on a MacBook Pro at 4x (DL) speed. I purchased both the Verbatim (30 spindle, 8x-10x speed) and these TDK discs (50 spindle, 8x speed) to try them both out. Both are 8.5GB DVD+R DL disc packs. The Verbatim's were more expensive (about 2x the TDK price per disc) but were rated as more reliable. The TDK's were less reliable (rating wise) but cheaper. It turns out the ratings were correct for both.

Of the first 5 Verbatim burns, all burned successfully and were verified - no hockey pucks. The TDK disc's, on the other hand, have resulted in 3 hockey pucks out of the first 5 burns. I'm pretty disappointed in the quality of these TDK disc's (especially at 4x speed, there should not have been any issue). I am now ordering a second set of the Verbatim's. Live and learn to stick with the review ratings versus trying to cheap out...

5 out of 5 stars Good disks   July 26, 2010

I've used about half of these disks and no failures. Work great, fast and as advertised. I'll buy more when I need them.

3 out of 5 stars Not as advertised.   June 18, 2010

As with a LOT of media manufactures these days, these disc's, while of good quality and give good burns, are NOT up to the advertised speed.

Maybe its just me, but I HATE paying for 8x DL media only to receive 6x DL media, which has happened to me a lot lately.

Unfortunately there is no way to determine if any given lot will burn at the rated speed other than to purchase a spindle. It would be nice if these companies did a little better quality control so those of us who purchase these can be assured of getting what we're paying for.

4 out of 5 stars Quality Dual Layer I Can Recommend   June 17, 2010

I ordered this product because TDK has been a good brand for me in the past and the sale price of $48.93 for the 50 pack made it reasonable. I've used 5 or 6 from the pack and the quality is very good. It is important to understand that not all dual layer discs are capable of actually accepting the amount of data they advertise, which is the reason for many failures. If you run enough of them you get a feel for those dual layer discs that are close to their advertise quality and I believe these TDK discs are that. However, I would not pay the list price of $96.27 as that would put the unit price at a ludicrous $1.93.
