Very annoying laptop May 8, 2010 Stacie My husband purchased this laptop about 6 months ago. Approx 1 month after purchasing it, the computer started to freeze up on us for no reason. We only use the laptop to check emails and surf the web for normal activity so we don't have a lot of data stored or any type of virus. Not only does the computer freeze on us, but the battery life is awful. We're constantly having to use the charger in order to use the laptop - it's ridiculous. Also, the picture quality is bad. I think I would have better luck viewing photos in the dark.
great band for the buck April 17, 2010 John Mccarroll I got this on sale for around $700 about a 9 months ago and could not be happier. I was initially obsessed with getting a laptop with a dedicated graphics card but found this to work fine with what I use it for which is mainly surfing the web and playing music and video via the hdmi out to my home theater system(this is very versatile). The Blu-Ray player is a great feature as well and plays the movies in pretty good detail. This is also more durable than I thought and has been all over the country with me thrown in to different bags and trunks of cars with no issues at present. I really like the mouse pad this has. It felt a little strange at first but grow on me fast. Most other mouse pads I tried felt sticky or not as tactile, if that makes any sense. The WIFI works great with no issues. I do wish this had an external volume control. You can do this somewhat by using the Fn F3 and F4 keys but its a little more of a hassle. The bloat ware that comes with this is pretty minimal and was easy to get rid of. I was not a fan of the anti-virus this came with and was able to easily remove and put my preferred anti virus software on. The Sony software that came with has been useful and not too much of a resource hog so this was left on. This is my first Sony laptop and I must say I am completely satisfied. I use Toshiba laptops in the past which I was very satisfied with as well. I recommended this to friends who bought them and have been satisfied with this as well. There are definitely better laptops including the newest model of this which has a dedicated graphics card, but probably hard pressed to find one comparable at this price.
Very Nice notbook except for battery life February 13, 2010 Scott J. Boyer (Berwyn, IL) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Stylish, well made and easy to use but the short battery life (2 hrs max) is very limited and that is with an extreme power saving config.

Vaio Laptop VGNNW270F
Six weeks ago I purchased a new Sony VGNNW270F laptop. One week ago, the laptop was sitting on the table and my husband moved it 6 inches. He admits to having had his thumb on the screen. Within an hour the screen went "Mondrian-like". We scoured the computer to find out what was wrong but could find no visible problem. We called Sony and sent it back, confident that they would stand behind their product. Unfortunately, that was not the case. According to Sony the screen was cracked internally and was not covered under warranty and would cost $500 to fix.
My husband is an IT professional and has handled hundreds if not thousands of laptops, he has never seen an LCD break this easily. He spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Sony explaining that it had to be defective or clearly too fragile for a laptop. They would not budge. That is their prerogative. I have since experimented with other laptops and have carried them around the house by the lid with my thumb on the screen, never mind just moving it 6 inches on a stable surface. I am finding it impossible to break them in that fashion and would likely have to drop it or bang it against a wall to break it. Clearly the Sony LCD is much too fragile for laptop use. One buys a laptop because it is portable and to be portable requires a certain level of durability - the Sony Vaio does not pass muster.
I'm not sure if a $1000 piece of equipment lasting 5 weeks is a record, but it certainly is for my bank account. I will never buy another piece of Sony equipment of any kind after this experience.
Their advertising tag line is make. believe - I now understand it because I now have to "make believe" I have a computer or "make believe" I can afford to shell out another $1000 for a laptop - albeit NOT a Sony.
Great Product February 8, 2010 C. Degrove I bought this laptop as a Christmas gift for myself and I could not have made a better choice. It works great for my photography as well as my office job. If you are looking for a laptop this is the one to buy.
