| Customer Reviews: Happy and Not May 6, 2008 intanet (New York) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I posted this in the review section of Dell Vostro 1500 web page but they didn't let it go through. I then reposted it yesterday. We'll see if they reject it again. This kind of p--sed me off so I'm posting it here just to get this experience out.
I got the Vostro 1500 a little over a month ago (end of March 2008). On the plus side, it is durable, fast and lightweight in my opinion. And the manual that comes with it is great. Very detailed.
On the minus side:I wasn't thrilled about the display...very thin (I tried all sorts of combinations in display settings to sharpen up the picture or give more color definition but it didn't help.) Also, light is bleeding out at the bottom of the display particularly noticeable on the left-bottom of display. And the touch pad...sometimes it scrolls but sometimes it doesn't and is a bit erratic no matter what I do in the settings. So I told my customer care rep who told me this was not normal and that he would send me out a "BRAND NEW LAPTOP" as a replacement. (I was still in my 30 day return period) Less than a week later I got the replacement but it looked like a refurb to me with fingerprints all over the case, no plastic on the Dell logo on the top of the case (my original laptop had plastic on the Dell Logo). It also had a cover that wobbled when closed and a right speaker that went on and off. Oh, and no improvement on the display and the touchpad was even less sensitive. I returned this replacement, mentioning that I thought it was a refurb. The only solution he gave me then was that I return the original laptop and pick out another model. I then called customer care and asked that; if I request another replacement, could they guarantee that it will not be a refurb like I believed the first replacement was. The customer care rep told me that he could NOT guarantee that they will send a new laptop as a replacement but said that he will do whatever he can. What is THAT! My original was not a refurb. And I was promised a "brand new laptop" as a replacement originally by the first rep I dealt with. Something is wrong here.
Anyhow, under these circumstances, I'm keeping the first laptop but Dell won't have a 100% satisfied customer here.
A solid laptop for business and home use May 2, 2008 O. P. Mejia (Bogota, Colombia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this laptop for my mom. She mainly gives it use for MS Office work, database management and some Internet. It suits her perfectly sience it has a big screen and a comfty keyboard. I do have to say it's bulkier that I expected but what else could you get for such a bargain. Love the bluetooth feature. Recomended,
Love this computer April 14, 2008 K. Vaszary (Washington State) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is my fourth Dell notebook. Have always been satisfied with them. The wide screen 15.4 inch screen is great for viewing DVDs. Much more viewing than the old 15 inch diagonal screen. Sound is better than most. I don't need external speakers or head phones. Four USB ports are very important to me as I use the notebook as a desktop replacement and I can have printer, scanner, magicjack and other USB powered hardware attached at the same time. With the media control buttons I can play my CDs and DVDs without having to boot up computer. Highly recommend this over a desktop.
absolutely love this! February 28, 2008 Deborah MacGillivray (US & UK) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I go through laptops at an unbelievable rate. I had been getting Gateway, but this time I bought a similar model to this Dell and was very disatified with the craftmanship. The keyboard felt like the hard plastic keys would break in short time. I hated their new hard plastic right/left control on the mouse! Gateway loaded it with too much junk programs that took me forever to nuke. I just never bonded with the computer. So I bought this Dell (mines has Vista Media and 160 Gig harddrive).
This is a great computer. By the time I had everything installed, I was in love with the Dell, the ease of use. Dell loads it with Dell Tune up, so it keeps it running like new. I love the bright, sharp screen, great speakers.
Warning if you get Visat Media, go with the biggest harddrive you can get, or get an external one out of the box, as Media chews up the drive!
This computer is built well, is comfortable to use, easy on the eyes. Sorry, Gateway, you lost a customer!
Highly recommended. You cannot beat the computer for the price.
