Extend your coverage to three years of service and expert telephone technical support.

One Number to Call for Help
Get direct telephone access to Apple's own technical support group, the people who know your system best. Because Apple creates the computer, the operating system, and many built-in applications, the Mac is a truly integrated system. Just one phone call can help resolve most issues with your Mac because AppleCare representatives can help troubleshoot Apple hardware, the Mac operating system, and many Apple consumer applications, including iLife, iWork, Jam Packs, iChat AV, Mail, Safari, iCal, iSync, AppleWorks, and QuickTime.

Convenient Repair Options
The AppleCare Protection Plan ensures that Apple-certified technicians will perform repairs using genuine Apple parts. With this plan, parts and labor will be covered for three years from the date of purchase of your Apple computer, two years beyond the one-year limited warranty. This plan includes global repair coverage, which can be very important if you travel abroad.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan anytime?

You can purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan anytime within the one-year limited warranty period. Your eligibility for coverage under the AppleCare Protection Plan starts from your hardware purchase date. Apple strongly recommends that you purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan when you purchase your Apple product to maximize the additional benefits provided under the plan.
What service options does the AppleCare Protection Plan offer?
Apple may provide service through one or more of the following options: carry-in service (to Apple retail stores or Apple Authorized Service Providers), direct mail-in service, onsite service (for desktop computers), or Do-It-Yourself (DIY) parts (so you can service your own product).
What does "global repair coverage" mean?
If you take your Apple hardware with you when you travel and happen to need repair service, the AppleCare Protection Plan offers global repair coverage. You can either go to an Apple retail store or contact Apple for information on how to obtain service. Service will be limited to the options available in the country where service is requested. Service options, parts availability, and response time vary according to country. Please see the AppleCare Protection Plan Terms and Conditions for complete details.
When I purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan, do I need to register it?
If you purchase your AppleCare Protection Plan and your covered product separately or elsewhere, you will need to register your AppleCare Protection Plan. Your AppleCare Protection Plan coverage starts from your hardware purchase date. Registering your AppleCare Protection Plan at a later date does not extend your coverage.

1 out of 5 stars Overpriced, lousy service   June 20, 2010
Sad Mac
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I purchased Applecare for my daughter's MacBook Pro, and was very unhappy with the service. When her hard drive failed, within the 1 year warranty period, I sent it in for service. Apple replied that the hard drive failed because of "accidental damage," so it was not covered. I couldn't prove that it wasn't because of accidental damage. (On the other hand, Apple couldn't prove that it was accidental damage either.) So I had to pay Apple to replace the hard drive. How much do they charge? $950!! This is for a $50 part that I could replace myself in 1/2 hour. However, if I did the work myself, it would void my Applecare. I would not mind paying for accidental damage, but the price they charge should be fair. Instead they scammed me for $950.

The people I spoke with at Apple were extremely rude. When I asked to speak with a supervisor, the nasty woman on the phone informed me "our supervisors don't speak to customers."

For less than the price you pay for Applecare, other vendors (HP, Dell) will sell you a warranty that covers accidental damage. Why is Apple overcharging for this?

If you want an Apple laptop, you're screwed. You need Applecare, because if the laptop breaks, you won't be able to get the parts to fix it. And Apple's hardware quality is not what is used to be, so you can be sure that you will need service within three years.

I think Apple computers are great, but the company, and the service they provide, is lousy.

5 out of 5 stars You'll pay a little more but buy from Amazon   May 21, 2010

Update 5/21/2010

If you read below I said I would go to the Apple store and see what they say about the plan's different numbers. Well, surprise, surprise for me coming from the Windows world. They were very casual about the whole thing and didn't care about the numbering of the plans, just as long as it was a 13" MacBook Pro plan, which is what Mac_Pro_Online said. I guess everyone in the Mac world is real casual about the specific numbers, maybe it's a California thing.

Anyway, they said I was OK with the plan I had. They didn't even look at the specific number, only the gray part which said 13 inches. So I guess if you want to save a few dollars buy from who sells it the cheapest. Apple doesn't care about detailed plan numbers, only the specific size of the computer itself.

I still have to register it. So if there are any problems I'll post another update other wise you shouldn't hear anything more from me. For now Mac_Pro_Online is OK, but I still wish they would let you know if your order couldn't be fulfilled exactly as ordered and give you the option of continuing or not.

I thought I had bought AppleCare Protection Plan MC258LL/A - For Portable Apple Computers 13.3 Inches and Below when I placed my order and in fact that's what it says on the invoice. However, I went with the cheaper price from Mac_XXX_Online to save 4 dollars instead of Amazon. I knew that Mac_XXX_Online had another package listed which was older it was listed for only 2 dollars less in savings (counting the shipping costs). I stayed away from that package and went with the newer MC258LL/A plan from Mac_XXX_Online. However what I received from them was the older MC246LL/A plan for the older 13 in MacBooks. I bought a new 13.3 in MacBook Pro so I wanted the plan that matched it exactly so there would be no trouble from the Mac store.

After talking with the Mac_XXX_Online they said that they just throw what ever they have into an order and don't even look at the numbers, because they say it doesn't matter. They say there should be no difference when I register it. Whether it's 13 inches or 13.3 inches it's the same they say. It's if it was a whole different size, i.e., 15 inches then it would matter. So old number plans are good for newer models they say. I'm going to go the Apple Store tomorrow and see what they say.

Mac_XXX_Online maybe right but they should send you what you ordered and not what they have. BTW, they sell this older plan on their website even cheaper for what they sell it for on Amazon. So if you really want this older plan buy it directly from them and save more money. However, I don't like being deceived, so buy from Amazon and you'll get what you ordered not what they have.

4 out of 5 stars Apple Care Warranty   February 8, 2010

When I tried to register the AppleCare Protection Plan I was told by Apple that this product had been sold to me by a retailer that was not authorized to sell AppleCare in the state of Florida. Apple has reimbursed me for the cost of the product. Additionally, the product description should (maybe it did) include that you must be in the original Apple warranty period of 1 year to register AppleCare. I missed the year cutoff by about 3 weeks. The product packaging does include this requirement, but once I had received the product package it was too late.

I rated the product very high since I know that it is very good, I just could not use it.

5 out of 5 stars Great so far   January 30, 2010

I had to use the apple technical service yesterday. After running a scan on my 3 month old MacBook it told me I had some sort of volume structuring problem. Here we go I thought. This is my first apple product and after dealing with a Dell all throughout college I am no stranger to the technical service department. So I called the number and after a somewhat lengthy automated intro I was put on hold. I was surprised when someone answered my call within about 30 seconds. And it sounded like someone my age (early 20s). Long story short, I basically started up the mac with the startup disk, clicked on repair disk, and the mac took care of finding the problem for me and fixing it. That was it. No lengthy complicated reconfiguration procedures or anything crazy. Restarted and that was it. The service rep was very knowledgable and didn't mind answering mac questions from a mac newbie while we were waiting for the mac to fix itself. Thank you apple for creating a customer service department with the customer in mind.

5 out of 5 stars Correct Product at Great $$$$$   January 20, 2010

Saved about $70 compared to Apple Store. And it does the same thing. Got the code via email and registered with Apple. Took about 3 minutes to complete. GOOD STUFF.
