Apple Care Warranty February 8, 2010 James Greene When I tried to register the AppleCare Protection Plan I was told by Apple that this product had been sold to me by a retailer that was not authorized to sell AppleCare in the state of Florida. Apple has reimbursed me for the cost of the product. Additionally, the product description should (maybe it did) include that you must be in the original Apple warranty period of 1 year to register AppleCare. I missed the year cutoff by about 3 weeks. The product packaging does include this requirement, but once I had received the product package it was too late.
I rated the product very high since I know that it is very good, I just could not use it.
Great so far January 30, 2010 funkymofo (Blacksburg, VA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I had to use the apple technical service yesterday. After running a scan on my 3 month old MacBook it told me I had some sort of volume structuring problem. Here we go I thought. This is my first apple product and after dealing with a Dell all throughout college I am no stranger to the technical service department. So I called the number and after a somewhat lengthy automated intro I was put on hold. I was surprised when someone answered my call within about 30 seconds. And it sounded like someone my age (early 20s). Long story short, I basically started up the mac with the startup disk, clicked on repair disk, and the mac took care of finding the problem for me and fixing it. That was it. No lengthy complicated reconfiguration procedures or anything crazy. Restarted and that was it. The service rep was very knowledgable and didn't mind answering mac questions from a mac newbie while we were waiting for the mac to fix itself. Thank you apple for creating a customer service department with the customer in mind.
Correct Product at Great $$$$$ January 20, 2010 J. Beach Saved about $70 compared to Apple Store. And it does the same thing. Got the code via email and registered with Apple. Took about 3 minutes to complete. GOOD STUFF.
Excellent service, but very pricey January 12, 2010 Anandh "Krish" (Fremont, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
You like MacBook and you spend a premium to buy it. But you should also remember that MacBooks are maintenance hungry. In the past 2+ years my MacBook had a replacement of hard disk, battery and body plastic close to keyboard. So, if you prefer to hang on to the MacBook, then you better buy this. Ofcourse, you may survive by not spending this extra on insurance and replacing them yourself. But the problem is, factor in the Apple cost for those hardwares + labor you will end up paying more - atleast in my case I would have ended up paying more.
Sometimes, you may find the people at Genius bar nerdy. While mostly they were helpful in solving the issues for me, there was an occasion when the guy was too unfriendly. He straight away rejected my claim for replacement of battery claiming that its beyond the expected cycle count. But the problem was, the battery got fried when connecting to a 240Volts input - which is in a way due to poor design/technical problem. However, I went to another store and the guy could immediately figured out the issue. He replaced it under warranty as well. So the bottom line, you have to be pushy to get your things done (I guess it is universal).
Bottomline, without any sort of warranty MacBook is a maintenance headache and AppleCare is the best so far for me. The 3 star is because of the trouble you may undergo (like me) when you come across few of those "Geniuses".
Apple Protection Plan December 26, 2009 Patrick A. Meehan Have not had to use the protection plan yet but have had to take the MacBook laptop in for warranty service during the first year of owning it. They replaced the hard drive that crashed after 11 1/2 months of having the computer. With everything that Apple makes I am sure the price for a replacement hard drive is $$$ so getting this plan was worth it in my opinion.
