2 out of 5 stars For a Little More Money, Buy a Better Mouse   September 2, 2010
SUCHU
I bought this mouse because it is under $20. The appearance and the color of the mouse are nice, but it does not work very well. The click sound is kind of noisy. What's worse is the scroll wheel. It makes a loud noise when it scrolls up. It is not as bad when I [scroll down].The mouse is very precise when it comes to moving around the page. You have to refocus your spot several times before it can locate the exact spot you are getting at. Comparing with the other Logitech notebook mouse I have, the Microsoft mouse is more poorly made. The USB transmitter is too long and does not fit on to the mouse nicely. The worst part of all is that it does not work even on a flat desk surface. I had to use a notebook as a mouse pad for it to function.

My recommendation is to spend a little more money and get a better mouse. You will regret if you get this one.

1 out of 5 stars Stopped working within 2 weeks   August 31, 2010

It was good and very easy to use at first, but stopped working within a few weeks of purchase, even after replacing the batteries several times.

1 out of 5 stars CAUTION!   August 30, 2010

CAUTION! DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 - Slate

I initially purchased this mouse because up to the time of my purchase, wireless mice required a wired receiver which you had to place on your work surface, not too far away from the mouse. This setup was a bit unreliable, because the mouse would not function properly when something came physically between the mouse and the receiver. (Why would anyone expect that to happen on a cluttered desk?). I loved the features of this device. The receiver is no bigger than a flash drive and plugs directly into a USB port. The mouse itself is smaller than many others, and fits nicely into the hand. (Although it is intended for a notebook computer, I use it for my desktop - for me it is the perfect size). It operates smoothly.

Initially, this mouse looked good and seemed to work well and be well made. It is not well made. As experienced and reported by other reviewers, it soon starts to function erratically. Often, it seems slow, requiring me to move it closer to the receiver. Sometimes, that improves the signal capture. Often, it does not.

There is nothing more frustrating than a sporadically-functioning device, particularly one needed constantly in the operation of a computer. Microsoft knows how to make a better product than this, and should be ashamed of itself.

BUY THIS PRODUCT AT YOUR PERIL!

4 out of 5 stars Easy to use   August 29, 2010
Norma Leigh Lucid (Denver, CO USA)
The properties and advantanges of this mouse have already been well covered by other reviewers. I'll just add that this mouse serves its purpose, was super easy to use right out of the (obnoxious plastic) package, and fits great in my hand.

It mysteriously stopped working for about a week, as if my computer didn't recognize it, then started right up again and has worked just fine since. I'm not sure what to make of that, but will consider it an anomoly that hasn't affected my rating.

My biggest complaint is the ridged texture of the scroll wheel. My index finger starts to feel raw after using the mouse for 30 minutes or so and I have to scroll with a different finger (or take it as a sign to get off the computer). It has worked well on wooden tables and smooth-covered books, but didn't work very well on a plastic-covered library book. Those are the only surfaces I've tried. Responsitivity is fine for my simple needs on my personal laptop; I doubt this mouse would meet gamers' needs and the scroll wheel would not be comfortable for a full day of computer work.

All in all, a good, basic, inexpensive wireless mouse.

1 out of 5 stars Horrible mouse...   August 29, 2010
Lil (Philadelphia, PA United States)
Like some of the previous reviewers pointed out, the mouse is difficult to use depending on your setup. I happen to have an iBook G4 with USB ports of the left, I use the mouse on the right because I'm right handed.

The iBook is tiny and still 14 inches away from the USB dongle at about six to ten minutes use I have a lot of interference. Cursor sticks in some parts of the screen, it doesn't work smoothly; and to top it, the scroll wheel ignores input. I tried disconnecting dongle, pressing reset buttons, etc. sometimes it fixes the issue, sometimes it doesn't; and sometimes it fixes the problem for one or two minutes then starts bugging again. I do not have that problem with the blue light Microsoft mouse, yes I know you get what you pay for BUT that shouldn't be an issue when the brand name is Microsoft. I could have gone for the other unknown brand for less than ten and I'm sure I'd be facing the same issues. The only biggest problem in the review of that one I saw was the heavy battery use... believe me if I could trade the time I have wasted fiddling around with this mouse it would be worth it if it needed battery replaced within a couple of weeks, my peace of mind is worth that and much more.

I feel like a fool thinking if I put my money in a Microsoft product it would be worth it, it wasn't!
