Applications
Built-in advanced applications include IA Presenter, IA Mirror, ArcSoft PhotoBase software for viewing and editing images, and a data backup app.

1 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy Toshiba Products   June 22, 2006

First off, the 755e PDA is very fragile and resets constantly and was poorly engineered. When it works, it is very nice. However, the buttons are easiy hit, so no matter how you carry it, the unit comes on and drains the battery. I sent mine back to Toshiba under warranty for repair, because the touchscreen went out, the serial number on back was worn off because the unit label wears off after a couple of months use. I enclosed the original serial number label from the box with a letter explaining the malfunction. Toshiba sent me a replacement unit, then later they charged my credit card for $499 (price of a new one at the time) and sent my old one back, because they said it did not have a serial number. The tech support person I was dealing with originally would never return my call, nor did the support manager. I thus, gave up since it would cost more to sue them than I lost. In the end, I ended up with a refurb unit for the price of a new one, that also failed after 1 year of use. Therefore, in my opinion, Toshiba's warranty is worthless and the unit will likely not last more than a year or two before it has major issues. You can take the risk if you want to, but I will never buy another Toshiba product of any kind as long as I live. They burned me once, but never again.

4 out of 5 stars Very Satisfied... Some small problems   May 13, 2006

I've had my e755 for over two years now and have been satisfied with its performance.

I did have to return the unit last year; of course it was out of warrantee by then and had to pay $100 for a refurb, when I dropped the unit the touch screen got erratic.

I've had no problems syncing the unit with the cradle; however, I've only once been able to get it to sync over WIFI and that was only after calling Toshiba's tech support. I resort to sync via cable.

The Mobile Media Player is not very good with this unit. I only had Media Player running and was getting silent gaps and slow performance. I loaded a freeware jukebox (I forget the name) and that improved things greatly. I did change a jukebox setting to prevent it from powering off from not touching it (so I could use it as a jukebox) and eventually I just hit the power button to turn it off. This was fine until I put it in my pocket and must have hit the stupid voice memo button... This turned on the unit, it recorded a one second voice file, started the jukebox application, and never shut off because of that stupid setting. My battery was completely drained.

If you don't use the voice memo feature very often then I suggest you turn off the button to prevent the creation of many, many voice files. They put that button in the worst location.

IrDA port is also in an awkward place. Let's say I load a remote control software on my pda. Now, in order to hit the play button I have to turn it sideways and tap the play button. That was incredibly stupid placement. I rarely use IrDA so I don't mind much. The remote software I could never quite get working right so I unloaded it and now only use IrDA when printing.

Once you have all the software loaded that you want make sure to do a backup and store it on the CF or SD memory.

It took a while to search for a RS232 driver for the USB port; but, I found it and was able to load the GPS with Microsoft Maps 2006. Works well; but, I wish Maps had directions on the mobile.

I've not been able to get it to work with a portable hard-drive yet. I'm sure it's a matter of finding the right usb driver. That's one thing that should be easier: finding the right drivers for usb devices.

Other reviewers have mentioned the multiple places to edit WIFI network stuff. It sucks but I think that was M$ at their worst. Now if only I could load Ubuntu on it I would be happy. I've not had problems web browsing. I just wish there were a firefox for pocketpc.

2 out of 5 stars Too expensive a device to never have worked properly.   February 7, 2006

Toshiba seems to have gotten out of the Pocket PC business which is a good thing. Even when new there was zero support on this product.

5 out of 5 stars Like a Charm   January 18, 2006

I've been using for over a year and have been through thick and thin with this Pocket PC. I dropped a couple months ago and it got a dent. Still works just as well as before. Windows Mobile 2003 gets screwy every once in a long while. I just reset the device and it is fine. I use it as an MP3/video player. I got the expansion pack and found some drivers that make it USB Mass Storage Device Host capable. Flash memory USB keys can be read using the expansion pack. I also have a 5GB Rio Carbon. I can plug that up to the USB port on the expansion pack and the e755 can access it. Which is awesome. I can't play videos from it but I can play music.
Durable, Reliable, Powerful too bad there isn't a linux OS for it.

2 out of 5 stars Keep your money and shop for another brand!   November 8, 2005

Oh, where to start! I purchased my e755 brand new from Amazon. Everything was going great. Big screen, fast processor, very cool! I purchased a toshiba cable to connect to a serial port. The cable would sometimes get stuck and on one occassion, taking it out actually broke the connector prongs at the bottom. It was still under warranty so I sent it off to Toshiba to get repaired. I get a call a few days later saying it's gonna cost $100 to fix? I'm thinking, WHAT? I told them I was using a Toshiba cable but it didn't matter. So, i forked out $100 for them to repair something that a Toshiba cable broke. (Just so you know, i have other cables that I use to sync up and they connect just fine ... no problems whatsoever!). So, i get it back and everything is great again. I use the Toshiba cable again (I was using it to hook up the PDA to my GPS for navigation) and noticed it was getting stuck again. So, to prove my point, i called Toshiba and they sent me an RMA to send it in. This time I include the pda AND cable. Of course, once it gets there, they connect the cable without problem (the problem didn't happen all the time, it was intermittent). So, i get another call saying, the cable connects just fine. The tech support person asks (like i'm an idiot), "Do you know how to remove the cable?" I say, "Of course, just push in the side buttons and pull it off!" And in a huff she responds, "NO! You push in the buttons and have to wiggle it gently side-to-side!" I'm thinking, my other cables you don't have to do that and trust me when it got stuck, i did that too (wiggle side to side). Needless to say, i had them ship it back to me.

About a month ago, I got the infamous white screen of death (my warranty has expired). After reading lots online about it, I realize i am hosed. Somebody sent it in (still under warranty) and Toshiba hit them with a $150 charge to fix it. Toshiba tech support does NOT care about its customers. They are arrogant and rude; hopefully, you will never have to deal with them. This item works well when it works, but the minute something goes wrong (and it will), you will not be pleased with Toshiba's tech support. It's a shame that a company like Toshiba has to resort to such lowness. I'm buying a new PDA and you can bet it will not be a Toshiba.
