4 out of 5 stars Not a dinosaur yet!   January 6, 2009
Malcom C. Flot Jr. (LA to NC)
Dell put out 5 different models of the AXIM, with each of them having several different variations between 2002 to the 9th of April in 2007, before they were discontinued. br /This action didn't have any thing to do with their ability to stand up as a leader and a giant in a declining market for the PDA-stand alones, but cell phone-PDA's have grown to be a more popular product in the market today. br /Dell Axim was the leader, and still remains the leader in some cases, with the Intel XScale Processor. The Dell Axim is operating on a Microsoft Mobile Windows platform, which makes it more compatible to most Applications than some cell phone-PDA's today. br /The Dell Axim X30 has three different variations: one is the 312mhz processor with no wireless (although optional), another has a 312mhz processor with Wi-Fi and blue-tooth, and on the high-end was the 624mhz processor with Wi-Fi and blue-tooth. br /Now as much as you have the option to set the processor speed within range, to preserve battery life, I like the one with the 312mhz, because they don't run hot, and the battery lasts longer. br /And by the way; PDA-stand alones will never become a dinosaur to me, and I could never be programmed into the matrix of the cell phone-PDA's, because if you are on a private call, discussing a subject on your PDA, now you got yourself a problem trying to get the information with your PDA glued to the side of your face. br /For example: how many times were you on the phone with someone and asked them for a telephone number that was stored in their phone, and they answer you with "I'll have to hang up to get the number, and than I'll call you back" br / br /The only problem that I have seen with this particular model: the X30 has a tendency to get vertical lines on the screen, while it also freezes up. In some cases you can do a soft or hard reset to fix the problem. br /

3 out of 5 stars Some problems, but okay   December 20, 2008
Carol A. Hartley (Texas)
First of all the people I bought this from did everything right. Got it to me quickly, etc. br /But I purchased it primarily for music and ebooks, and have found limited sites that I am able to get the books from and the music program is not compatible with my PC which is also a Dell. I have heard there are remedies for that, but haven't been able to fix it thus far. br /It does have a nice screen; easy to read. It came with an extra battery which is nice since I spend a lot of time camping and like being able to carry reading materials this way. br /Worth the price, but probably would get another Palm next time.

2 out of 5 stars not as good as expected   November 29, 2008

Not as easy to use as I expected. Very difficult to connect to internet.

3 out of 5 stars Satisfied Consumer   October 20, 2008

A very light pda, its easy enough to carry and use to easily review photos taken with my camera with the built in SD card slot. Though i was disappointed that without the bluetooth or wireless capabilities its not useful for much else. Overall its a great product.

2 out of 5 stars Difficulty making Axim work with Vista   September 30, 2008

I have owned several Axims previously and thought that I would again be pleased with this PDA. The Axim X30 contains all the features I was anticipating and it appears that Dell had improved the unit from it predecessors. The trouble came in trying to get the unit to sync with my PC which is running Windows Vista Home Premium. First, the installation disc does not contain the software that allows you to create the appropriate synchronization links (it is outdated for Vista). You have to go and load Windows Mobile Device Center. After loading the new program I could get the units to acknowledge one another existed but I still could not get the 2 units to transfer data. I found that Dell no longer supports Axim units and Microsoft was no help either. I eventually returned the unit and purchased a Palm Tungsten E2 which, after loading the appropriate Palm software, functions smoothly.
