4 out of 5 stars the little PDA that could (but needed a little more steam!)   December 1, 2006
o2btravling (northern NJ [USA])
I know this review is late, but I had this PDA (got it as a Christmas gift three years ago), and I regret not giving it the kudos it deserved while I used it. br / br /After looking at Palm devices and Windows-based PDAs, I let everyone know this was the PDA for me. The price was right, and I heard through the Christmas gifting grapevine that rebates were available at the time, and it was a "good deal" (that meant under $200 at the time). br / br /I was looking for a simple PDA, but the V36 was that and much more... camera, built in microphone, simple to use text input methods, SD-card friendly, couldn't ask for much more. br / br /With nothing more than a simple plastic film screen protector and its factory-supplied leather-like case, it traveled to Europe with me safely, and returned back to the States in good condition. br / br /It functioned pretty passably as a low-end digital camera and recording device, and I kept my calendars and diaries on it. It was quite a workhorse, starting up pretty quickly and never freezing up on me. I liked that it had a user replacable battery, but by the time the battery lost its ability to recharge, the batteries were hard to come by. br / br /At this point, I'm moving on to a cellphone (I'm a conservative tech adapter), but when I used it to its last dying charge, the Viewsonic V36 had truly fit the bill! No regrets. Good for a first time PDA user.

I received my view sonic v36 as a gift. At first I was apprehensive of such an electronic device, but soon found many uses for it. It organizes my busy schedule, daily, weekly, and monthly. I use it as an MP3 player, and shoot pictures of my friends. Since the camera is a little slow and doesn't have flash, I normally stick to daylight and people need to remain still. Sometimes the unit doesn't want to turn off, so lately I have been backing up my data so that when I reset the unit, my information will be there. I like personalizing my unit with pictures of my friends on the screen. I also like how windows programs and games came installed on the unit. I have even found out how to download more games. I have had this unit for over a year, and the battery charges just fine. I am going to buy this same unit for a friend of mine. The battery normally lasts for a few hours while I have it on, over a week otherwise.

5 out of 5 stars What else you want.   September 28, 2005

Most other features will be useless. This Pocket PC records, plays MP3, takes pictures, movies, and most of all manages my busy schedule better than a paper agenda or a laptop. Besides I have been able to find many other professional and practical uses which means a lot when you can actually carry it with you. Like everything you need to be willing to follow the instructions and it will work for you fine without problems. Don't abuse it with extreme memory clutter and soft-restart once in a while. Oh, and make sure your kids don't drop it. For the price, this is the best package. If you are not the concious type, get the old paper agenda out and stop harming these usefull gadgets. Your bad reviews are affecting the industry and at the end it won't be profitable for them to produce such helpful thingys anymore. Maybe we can be nicer and learn how to use the new technology, it is not made of wood, you know? Who knows what have you been doing to it, and please take it off your back pockets before you sit!

4 out of 5 stars It's ok, too bad there is so little suport from Microsoft   June 9, 2005

It works quite well as far as Pocket PC goes. It's a good little unit. I've not have a major problems with the hardware. It's a shame that Microsoft offers so little in the way of support. Too bad. This is my second Pocket PC, and probably the last. Microsoft's online help is pretty much useless, and that's all there is. If you are interested in the basic calendar type of stuff, you will probably be happy. If you need anything beyond that, good luck. The new sub-notebook computers with Windows-XP are so much more capable, why suffer ? I got a new Fujitsu and am very happy with it. It's a shame that the company who wrote the o/s treats it like an unwanted orphan. It's got such a great unrealised potential. I really wish MS would really get behind it.

1 out of 5 stars Nice, but only for 6 months Then you have to buy another   December 8, 2004

This is a very nice unit. The screen is clear the memory expandable, the price just right. THE MAJOR DRAWBACKS are that the computer burns out after 6-7 months leaving you high and dry with the company. The secondary battery fails even when you have the unit plugged into the charger erasing all of you files and system memory. br / [...] I would go with something that has a reputation for working longer than a goldfishes memory.
